Just to reiterate, Northgard doesn't give you much of a defensive advantage, and definitely not enough to overcome 3v1.
Since you are outnumbered you need efficiency, and tactician gives you that. I'd recommend tactician, since playing defensive is going to lose and conquest is not great except in close fights with blood bath.
Once you're ready to go, send everything you can except your wood and best food producers and hit like a freight train. If you're getting ready to attack, make sure to feast and then convert to soldiers once it's done, since this will give you the best resource reserves and allow you to max your warband without fear of running out of anything. Team with your ally and kill them one by one. AI is still AI and too stupid to attack properly, to manage aggro, to keep attacking one zone after another.
